Michael Sreenan is a photographer based in the northeast of the UK. His practice, spanning both commissioned and personal work, is grounded in visual storytelling, collaboration, and an interest in how people experience place, identity, and periods of transition.

Across all strands of his practice, Michael’s work is characterised by warmth, sensitivity, and a belief in photography as both a communicative and reflective tool, capable of serving commercial needs, artistic enquiry, and collaborative research.

His recent project, You Look Like You, is a deeply personal visual exploration of trauma, brain injury, and the unpredictable nature of recovery. Developed over several years, the work reflects his ongoing interest in how we process experience and how identity is shaped through both connection and change. A National Lottery Project grant from Arts Council England funded the project.

Michael’s work has been recognised by the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain (2023), and exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, including The Weight Of Being (Two Temple Place, London, 2026), You Look Like You (Redcar Contemporary Art Gallery, 2024); Let Not the Deep Swallow Me Up (Kirkleatham Museum, 2024); Open Call (Redcar Palace Hub, 2023); and the Portrait Exhibition (Glasgow Gallery of Photography, 2023).
